The Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Duration: 1 Night
BOOK NOW

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is situated between the foothills of Mt. Kenya and the Aberdares. It is a 364 square kilometre wildlife conservancy boasting over 10,000 large mammals. It’s the only huge park where the “big five” and chimpanzees can be seen – in the same location.

It is also known for its rapidly growing white rhino population, 80 endangered black rhinos and a special sanctuary of the four of the world’s last seven remaining white rhino species.

Ol Pejeta offers game safari by vehicle, or by horse rides, game walks and even camel rides. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the endangered species of northern white rhinos. There are only seven species left in the world and only four can be found in Africa. Here you will have an opportunity to meet these majestic creatures as they struggle against extinction.

Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Within the Ol Pejeta is a sanctuary of over 800 confiscated or orphaned chimpanzees from 12 African Countries. The Kenyan Wildlife Services joined forces with the Jane Goodwill institute to establish the Sweetwaters sanctuary as a refuge for the orphaned chimps.

The chimpanzees live in an island divided from the mainland by a river. The older chimps occupy one half and the younger chips occupy the other half. To get to the Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary, we will travel by boat.

Lodging at the Sweetwaters Serena Camp

Next to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the Sweetwaters Serena Camp. It is a sweet blend of lush oasis, pristine calm ambiance and sheltered safari luxury.

This luxury camp is located on the plains of Mt. Kenya and it features thirty nine luxury tents and camps with its own private verandas. The central Rhino restaurant offers both regional and international dishes.

It also features the Kashoggi Bar and lounge, the Waterhole Bar, which was inspired by game-viewing hide that overlooks the waterhole and other wildlife-watching adventures.
